{Nutmeg Chelle} Candlemas was Fair and Bright

Znara_Fungi_Winter_Quote3

Superbowl, schmooperbowl- yesterday was Groundhog Day! Also known as Candlemas, it’s the day that the groundhog checks its shadow to determine whether we’re in for six more weeks of winter.  Since yesterday was sunny and bright, Punxsutawney Phil’s shadow appeared, confirming that “winter has another flight.” Connecticut’s very own groundhog, Chuckles, agreed with him as well!

While my prayers have been with our neighbors in the South recently as they battle weather-related emergencies, I must say that I’m not disappointed about the (completely unscientific) possibility that we might have six more weeks of winter here in Connecticut.  Sure I find the cold and snow annoying sometimes but one of the best parts of living in the Northeast is getting to truly experience all four seasons and I’m determined to savor the joys of each and every one.  Coming across the photo above reminded me of a fellow Connecticut blogger’s great perspective on winter and the fun that can be had when we remember that this is only a moment in time, one that should be enjoyed if we can.

If it turns out that we are in for six more weeks of winter, here are some ways to make the most of what’s left of the season.

  • Make Nutella hot chocolate.
  • Go skiing, snowboarding or tubing.
  • Get creative with your snow creations.
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen.
  • Cuddle under a ridiculously soft blanket.

P.S. If you want to see Chuckles check her shadow next year, visit the Lutz Children’s Museum, tagged on my Connecticut Pinterest board.

  1. 1. Lutz Museum was only about 15 minutes from my home growing up. I used to go there all of the time. #memories

    2. I shall not be grateful for all 4 seasons until the winter doesn’t involve me shoveling… lol. If I lived in an apartment where property maintenance wasn’t needed or had the extra funds to pay someone to shovel my driveway + walkway… I wouldn’t complain. But sometimes it’s just too much! Especially at 5am so I can get to the train on time. I guess I wouldn’t be so angry is it wasn’t snowing today… lol

  2. Thanks so much for the link. I’m glad it inspired you since we still have such a long way to go before the warm weather is back. Have fun!

  3. Definitely a great perspective! I am tired of the snow and every time I think of moving somewhere else I realize that I’m not quite ready to give up the four-season year. Which, you are right, means learning to appreciate every season. We had a great time with Jack in the snow which helped bring back the magic of the season. I love that picture btw!
